For this meeting, the RVAPB Steering Commission was joined by the Participatory Budgeting Project to delve into some of the core questions that will help them design a process for Richmond.
We went into significant detail about the various steps of pb and key things that the commission needs to consider as they move from design to idea collection to proposal development and then voting.
Key points were to think deeply about who you are design this process for considering those you are typical not involved or systemically excluded from the PB process, what are our equity criteria, and being transparent about who holds power throughout these efforts.
PB Processes that were highlighted in the presentation:
King County, WA – https://kingcounty.gov/depts/local-services/programs/participatory-budgeting.aspx
Grand Rapids, MI – https://www.grandrapidsmi.gov/Government/Programs-and-Initiatives/Participatory-Budgeting
