The Richmond People’s Budget is focused on making sure everyone in the community has a role in deciding how $3 million of the city budget is spent. There are lots of ways to get involved. This includes those that are a little skeptical to those that are all in. The great thing about participatory budgeting is that there are both very simple ways and more in-depth ways to get involved.  

Below are descriptions of a few different roles for making this process a success for the community. Each has a different time commitment and role to play. Do what makes sense for you, but know that there is always an opportunity for your voice to be heard.

Become a part of the steering commission

The RVAPB Steering Commission is a group of residents that provides overarching leadership, guidance, advocacy, and connections for the Richmond People’s Budget. They meet monthly and serve for a 2 year term. To apply you can go to the City Clerk’s Office.

Keep up to date on all things RVAPB as we kick off efforts learn more and build towards the start of idea collection in the fall.

Become an RVAPB Amplifier

For those active in their communities and on social media, why not help to amplify RVAPB? Share it with friends, at a community meeting, or boost/comment on a post. We are just starting to set up the many channels (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook) to connect with the community, but we are always excited about word of mouth.

So, we haven’t started just yet, but are already listening to the community

Share an idea

While we aren’t starting the process until the Fall of 2024, you can always share an idea. Go to this FORM to share an idea or need that would make your neighborhood better.

Consider Joining a Budget Delegate Committee in your neighborhood

Budget Delegate will start to meet in the fall of 2024. Meetings will take place every other week for 4-6 months to assess ideas, research feasibility, consider their impact, and develop a budget.
